There must be a precedence in this world for a free, holistic, walk-in clinic…actually, there are plenty of inspiring examples in India:
and much good work being done in third world by organizations like Homeopaths Without Borders, who work tirelessly in places like Sri Lanka and Haiti, where the need is great, indeed.
But what about our own back yards? This is the koan that I’ve been chewing on ever since I began studying Homeopathy in 2010…and seeing the great needs of my family, my neighbors and friends is the starting place for my charitable impulses, and my reason for pursuing a healing profession.
In the meantime, I am bolstered by finding the following “definition” of Holistic Medicine – which should be the definition for ALL medicine. This encourages me to stick to my principals, and passion for medicine that is truly holistic – and to continue building our vision for a free, walk-in, holistic clinic in Gilpin County, Colorado:
Holistic Medicine is defined by the Canadian Holistic Medical Association as follows.
Holistic medicine is a system of health care which fosters a cooperative relationship among all those involved, leading towards optimal attainment of the physical, mental emotional, social and spiritual aspects of health.
It emphasizes the need to look at the whole person, including analysis of physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, social, spiritual and lifestyle values. It encompasses all stated modalities of diagnosis and treatment including drugs and surgery if no safe alternative exists. Holistic medicine focuses on education and responsibility for personal efforts to achieve balance and well being.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
