Talk about wild gourmet seasonings….this one is just as versatile and nutritious as our Nettle Me, but with a totally unique flavor profile.

Dandy Dash is equal parts Dandelion Leaves & Nutritional Yeast, and half part mineral salt. The result? The best vegan popcorn, mashed potatoes, and by the spoonful goodness yet.

Why dandelion?

We must turn to the Green Goddess Herself for the most delectable, and definitive word on dandelion: “Alors, chere, here are ze big words again. Zey say my leaves of glorious green are one of ze best foods you every eat, eh? Zey help you stay alkaline (not a sourpuss) and active. Ze breast milk is made rich (I tell you I like ze ladies!), ze stomach and liver is made strong, and ze wounds are healed when doctor dandelion is your ally. And don’t forget my effect on your kidneys. You don’t want to wet ze bed, eh?” (Susan Weed, Wise Woman Herbal, pg. 146)

Dandelion is high in vitamins A, B-complex, C,  and D; as well as potassium, calcium, iron, and phosphorus. Dandelions are also digestive bitters, which stimulate healthy digestion and appetite. They also help with blood building and lymph moving. Why NOT dandelion? Everyone needs more dandelion!

What is “Nutritional Yeast” aka “nooch” aka “Savory Flakes”?

According to The Fat-Free Vegan blog, nutritional yeast is made from “Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, which is grown on molasses and then harvested, washed, and dried with heat” to deactivate the yeast culture. The result is a yellow, toasted cheesy flake that is high in vitamin B12 – the one essential vitamin that is darn-near impossible to get in a vegan diet.

Susun Weed, in her Menopausal Years, does caution that consuming nutritional yeast every day may interfere with Calcium absorption. However, nutritional yeast is a delicious way to get a cheesy flavor and those all-important B vitamins if you adhere to a vegan or low-fat vegetarian diet.

How to use “Dandy Dash?” 27016354_1570223246406094_692149052_o

Generously! Try it on popcorn, potatoes in every variation, and instead of parmesan on top of your spaghetti (or by the spoonful)!
