Welcome to the holistic life – and ’round these parts, we mean more than just natural remedies. Holistic is wholeness is holism is holiness (to borrow some poetry from my favorite folk healer/wise woman Susun Weed). Everything is embraced here – everything that you are and everything you do, the good, the bad and the ugly.
We’re not perfect angels, and that’s a good thing. But we’re not evil, and we don’t cleanse because we’re shunning or excommunicating some part of our dynamic, evolving life stories. We cleanse because it reminds us to stay in step with the seasons, to slow down and appreciate the cool spring breezes, the simple sensations of sweet, sour, and pungent…and to muse on the hidden notes of life that have no name.
Our bodies are always cleansing, that’s what they are programmed to do naturally all the time. Rebuilding bones, organs, skin, cleaning out dead cells, toxins and excess fats. When we get out of touch with our bodies, when we lose touch with the natural cycles and balance of living close to nature, that’s when we initiate destructive patterns that lead to pathology – that’s why we cleanse.
Before going to the store and checking off a long list of items for your spring cleanse this year – Apple Cider Vinegar, kefir, kombucha, fiber supplements, honey, prune juice, kale, etc. etc. etc. – take a moment to remember who you are: you are natural, you are perfect. All the aches and pains, the difficult digestion, the chronic fatigue, the stress overload – that’s part of your experience, but it’s not essentially you. Holistic cleansing is meant to bring you back to that place of simplicity, of awareness and of dynamic, vibrant health.
Spring blessings, Arwen
