Here in Colorado, Channel 9 News sponsors something called the “9 Health Fair”. These fairs happen all over the state throughout the year and feature vaccination clinics, blood donation areas, dental exams, eye exams, BMI checking, A1C and diabetes testing, mental health testing, blood pressure and more. It’s an amazing opportunity to know your baseline, get medical advice from qualified professionals, and be hands-on with your health.
There’s another aspect to finding health and wellness that is not featured at the 9 Health Fairs however: the vast array of holistic options that can help us achieve optimum wellness without pills or invasive procedures. Reiki, massage therapy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, counseling, nutrition, naturopathy, and homeopathy and just a handful of the hundreds of holistic modalities you may have heard of or tried.

Gilpin County is what I’d like to call a “health desert” – our only clinic closed in 2013. The 9 Health Fair used to come to the county…but stopped coming in 2013. For the folks who live here year-round, we are forced to commute out of county for basic health care needs. Add all those ingredients to the fact that our residents live in rural and isolated communities (and we like it that way) and you have a population that does not access preventative medicine or appropriate early medical interventions until it’s too late.
All these reasons are why The Holistic Homestead is very proud to bring our Holistic Health Fair to Gilpin County this year. On Saturday, December 2nd from 1 to 5 pm we will set up in the gym at the Gilpin Rec Center – arguably the county’s greatest health and wellness resource.
Everyone who stops by will have a chance to sample massage, reiki, aromatherapy, and sound healing; watch and participate in live demos of yoga and t’ai Kwan do; consult with a nutritionist, a holistic nurse, a homeopath and a naturopath; eat healthy, 100% organic, vegan friendly and gluten free snacks; and get the kiddos excited about health at our “Hands-On Health Literacy” kids corner!
